On PRISM, Snowden and encryption

This is not a post, just a note for my archive.

Last week I wrote an article in Expressen on the PRISM leaks. I argued that the most dramatic revelation of such a leak would contain details on encryption algorithms. Basically, which crypto-implementations can be compromised by the NSA, and which remain (reasonably) safe?

Today, Snowden chatted with the readers of The Guardian. Because such pages usually disappear in the anarchive of the internet, I paste a quote by Snowden below:

Encryption works. Properly implemented strong crypto systems are one of the few things that you can rely on. Unfortunately, endpoint security is so terrifically weak that NSA can frequently find ways around it.

Good. However, to rely on crypto systems, you first have to learn how to use them.
